Hunger Awareness Day 2007:
Envisioning a Community Without Hunger
New Hampshire Institue of Art students, Stephanie Nelson and Lindsay Sheldon, brought the poster entries to life as larger-than- life paintings that can be seen at the NH Food Bank.

The New Hampshire Food Bank commemorated National Hunger Awareness Day with an open house on June 6th. The event also marked the unveiling of three paintings produced by New Hampshire Art Institute students, Lindsay Sheldon and Stephanie Nelson. The painings were based on the winners of the Food Bank's recent "Envisioning a Community without Hunger" food drive and poster contest. The winners, eight year old Michael Barton a 3rd grader at Gossler Park School, 14 year old Alex Green, an 8th grader at St. Joseph Junior High School, and 16 year old Nick Levesque a Junior at Memorial High School, were awarded with their framed art at the event.

Winners of the food drive contest were also announced at the event. 6 schools in the Manchester area pulled together to collect 3,190 lbs. of food! The winners of the contest, Trinity High School, Parkside Middle School and Mr. Record's 2nd grade class at Gossler Park School won an ice cream social provided by Hood and tickets to a New Hampshire Fisher Cats game.

The "Envisioning a Community Without Hunger" food drive and poster contest was designed to raise awareness in school-aged children on the issues of hunger and poverty, to aid the nearly 100,000 New Hampshire residents at risk of hunger, and to highlight the creativity of New Hampshire students.
