Saving Smart, Spending Smart Facilitator

 

Description:

The NH Food Bank’s Operation Frontline program, developed nationally by the anti-hunger non-profit Share Our Strength, offers families training to help them develop the cooking, nutrition and food budgeting skills they need to make healthy and economical food choices.  Saving Smart, Spending Smart is a training class that gives participants the opportunity to increase their skills and knowledge related to money management topics including setting goals, communicating about money, budgeting, saving, investing, and managing credit.  Each Saving Smart, Spending Smart class involves 2 - 6 sessions that are 2-2.5 hours long each.  Along with the Operation Frontline Coordinator, volunteers prepare for and facilitate Saving Smart, Spending Smart training sessions.

 

Responsible to:

Operation Frontline Coordinator; Class Participants

 

Duties:

·               Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one entire Saving Smart, Spending Smart class series (2 - 6 sessions as determined by the host facility and the participants’ needs).

·               Volunteers work with the Operation Frontline Coordinator to adapt the content and participatory activities in the Saving Smart, Spending Smart Curriculum to meet the needs of the target audience.

·               Volunteers facilitate the two and a half hour Saving Smart, Spending Smart training sessions.

·               Volunteers answer participants’ questions during and sometimes after class.

 

Time Required:

·               Volunteers spend approximately three hours preparing for their first Saving Smart, Spending Smart sessions.  Typically less time is needed preparing for their next sessions.

·               Volunteers arrive at the training site before the session begins and deliver the training ~ 3 hrs/class including travel

·               Volunteers participate in weekly phone or email communications (if requested) with the Operation Frontline Coordinator to debrief and discuss any changes that need to be made to the sessions or the training site.

 

 

 

 

 

What You Can Expect From the Operation Frontline Program:

·               The Operation Frontline Coordinator will meet with you initially to orient you to the Saving Smart, Spending Smart participant curriculum and Facilitator’s Manual.  The coordinator will also help you understand what to expect from the group you will be teaching.

·               The Operation Frontline Coordinator will meet with you again before classes to answer questions you may have and to review the agenda for each session.

·               The Operation Frontline Coordinator will attend classes with you to provide logistical support, additional information as requested, and help manage group dynamics if necessary.

 

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

·               Professional background in financial planning or thorough personal understanding of money management topics

·               Experience delivering participatory training to adults

·               Familiarity and/or experience working with the target audience for the Saving Smart, Spending Smart sessions (diverse nationalities and backgrounds)

·               Willingness to be flexible, patient, and understanding of others’ points of view

 

Please note that classes may be co-taught by 2 or more volunteers provided that at least one volunteer will be present for all class sessions.
