Take Action E-mail

Here at the NH Food Bank, we want to provide an opportunity for everyone to be able to make a difference.  If you don't have time to donate to helping us with our projects or aren't close enough to help us on site, here are some other ideas of ways to take action and help fight hunger in New Hampshire:

Organize a Food Drive

Take the SNAP Challenge

SNAP Challenge

Three meals a day on just $4?  Working poor families, people with disabilities, and seniors on fixed incomes do it all the time.  Every month, more than 110,000 New Hampshire residents seek help from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the new name for the federal Food Stamp Program, to meet a portion of their food needs.

SNAP benefits are only meant to supplement a struggling family's budget, and simply can't cover food costs for an entire month.  But after rent, utilities, transportation, and childcare, most low-income households have little or no money left for food without SNAP benefits.  Many of these families turn to the New Hampshire Food Bank's partner agencies - like food pantries, soup kitchens, and emergency shelters - to help keep food on the table.

Could you buy enough food for a month with $120?  That's the average monthly SNAP benefit in New Hampshire.  We're challenging you to fill your grocery sack the same way that more than 110,000 New Hampshire residents do - with only $4 a day.  Our hope is that this challenge provides a shared understanding of the obstacles faced by people who struggle to avoid hunger, stay healthy, and find affordable, nutritious food.

Raising awareness is a big part of fighting hunger, so help us get the word out there by lending your voice!  Visit our About Hunger page to learn about poverty and hunger in New Hampshire so you can tell people about the issues facing our fellow New Hampshire residents.

Plant a Row for the Hungry

Plant a Row

Started in 1995 by the Garden Writers Association (GWA), the Plant a Row (PAR) program has encouraged gardeners all over the country to plant an extra row of produce in their gardens to donate to local organizations seeking to alleviate hunger in their communities.  Since its beginnings, over 16 million pounds of produce providing over 60 million meals have been donated by American gardeners.  All this has been achieved without government subsidy or bureaucratic red tape - just people helping people.  To learn more about the PAR program, visit the GWA website by clicking here.

Volunteer for an Agency

While we love having volunteers here at our warehouse, we recognize that some people interested in helping fight hunger in New Hampshire are located too far away to help us on site.  However, the NH Food Bank distributes food to more than 400 agencies across the state, many of which could use your help too!  If you are unable to travel to volunteer with us here in Manchester, consider donating your time to an agency in your area.  For help finding a food pantry or soup kitchen near you, download a list of agencies registered with us on our Find a Food Pantry page.

Sponsor a Mobile Food Pantry

Mobile Food Pantry

The NH Food Bank distributes food to agencies all over the state, but did you know we also do Mobile Food Pantries in locations around the state as well?  The need for food is high right now and we don't always have the resources to meet the demand, but if you'd like to make an impact for the hungry in your community, contact Connie at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for information about how to sponsor a Mobile Food Pantry in your area.
