Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, when the Feeding America network of  partner food banks come together to raise awareness and take action on the issue of hunger.  This annual month-long campaign brings attention to the reality of food insecurity in the US and promotes ways for individuals across the country to get involved in the movement to help end hunger. Orange is the official color of hunger and Hunger Action Month®. 


WMUR’s NH Tackle Hunger

NH Food Bank, WMUR and Dead River Company are once again teaming up with high school athletic departments to tackle hunger in New Hampshire! High school football teams will be picking an upcoming football game to collect food and raise money for the local food pantries in their community.


SEPTEMBER 1-23: Canstruction

Canstruction is an event in which a structure of an organizations choosing is built using canned or packaged food items. Structures will be judged the week of 9/25/23. Once completed, all canned and packaged foods are donated to local NH Food Bank partner agencies for distribution to those in need.


SEPTEMBER 2: Run Your Buns Off 4.2 Miler

The Newfound Area Charitable fund is hosting their 14th Annual Run Your Buns Off 4.2 Miler, benefiting NH Food Bank, on September 2, 2023! This unique, fun-filled 4.2 mile course starts and finishes near the shore of Newfound Lake. For more info, check out: https://runyourbunsoffnh.com/


SEPTEMBER 8, 15, 23: Concord Police Department Stuff a Cruiser Food Drives

Concord Police Department and the NH Food Bank need your help to Fight Hunger and Stuff a Cruiser with food donations! Make a donation, meet your local law enforcement
officers, and make a difference in your community! See below for dates and Concord locations:

  • Friday, September 8: Market Basket, 108 Fort Eddy Road from 9:00am – 1:00pm | In partnership with The Friendly Kitchen
  • Friday, September 15: Shaw’s, 20 Fort Eddy Road from 1:00-4:00pm | In partnership with The Salvation Army of Concord
  • Saturday, September 23: Hannaford, 73 Fort Eddy Road from 9:00am – 1:00pm | In partnership with Friends of Forgotten Children

SEPTEMBER 11: 14th Annual WBS-HUB Harvest Golf Classic

This annual golf tournament to benefit the New Hampshire Food Bank will be held at Manchester Country Club with a shotgun scramble format. All funds raised at the golf outing will support the New Hampshire Food Bank’s efforts to expand food distribution and innovative educational programs to reach those who need it most.


SEPTEMBER 12: Merrimack Valley Learning Center In-School Pantry Ribbon Cutting

New Hampshire Food Bank joins Merrimack Valley Learning Center in Penacook to cut the orange ribbon at the new Merrimack Valley Learning Center’s School Pantry.


SEPTEMBER 15: Hunger Action Day®

Go orange on Friday, September 15 to celebrate Hunger Action Day® and bring awareness to the issue of hunger in our communities. Throughout September, buildings, landmarks and people across the country will go orange. Today, wear orange, turn your social media profile pictures orange, and encourage others to do the same!


SEPTEMBER 15: Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth goes Orange for Hunger Action Day®

The Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth will go orange on Hunger Action Day to help raise awareness of hunger here in NH this Hunger Action Month®.


SEPTEMBER 15 – 16: City of Manchester Lights City Hall Clock Tower Orange for Hunger Action Month®

The City of Manchester will be lighting City Hall’s clock tower orange starting on Hunger Action Day® through September 16 to help raise awareness of hunger here in NH this Hunger Action Month®.


SEPTEMBER 15 – 17: The Hotel Concord Lights Up Orange for Hunger Action Month®

The Hotel Concord will go orange starting on Hunger Action Day® through September 17 to help raise awareness of hunger here in NH this Hunger Action Month®.


SEPTEMBER 15 & 29: Mac Off Competition presented by Bank of America

Sign up for the 9th annual Mac Off Competition and see how much Mac & Cheese your team can pack! All Mac Packs will be distributed to families in need. We will host 5 lines with 10 team members per line at 2 hour intervals from 8:00a – 5:30pm


SEPTEMBER 22: Manchester Police Department Stuff a Cruiser Food Drive

Manchester Police Department and the NH Food Bank need your help to Fight Hunger and Stuff a Cruiser with food donations on Friday, September 22 at Market Basket, 460 Elm St! Make a donation, meet your local law enforcement officers, and make a difference in your community! In partnership with Families in Transition Food Pantry.
